Please read a sample of the kind words some of our customers have had to say about their car service at our Eltham workshop. Jim on Google - Great service, great people, would recommend to anybody! I've had issues with an older car for a few years and it has been through multiple mechanics before Temby's had it sorted after one day. Daniel on Google - Great workmanship, great service, very easy to deal with - also do a great job at pre-purchase inspection, too. Thanks, guys! Vahid on Google - Had 2 Toyota vehicles serviced recently. Photos & names of all the mechanics in the office was a great start. Phone call during the day gave me information, options and good advice. Service was finished in a single day, log books stamped and they waited for me to make to pick up before locking up. Will use their service again. Just bear in mind public transport is a reasonable walk & taxis are scarce. Tay on Google - Incredible experience from a mechanic, I own an older model car and have often found mechanics who don't do the job or don't do it properly. At Temby' s Auto, the team really looked after me and kept me well informed on how the work was going, I was so well informed that I was able to make the decisions so I was completely comfortable with all that was being done and got a fantastic price for it all! Thank you so much to sean, the nice bloke who kept in contact with me while my car was in the shop. 10/10 would recommend to EVERYONE! Evie on Google - Really looked after me, explained everything and gave me confidence in the job. I was a bit apprehensive especially after a couple of other mechanics, where the job wasn't quite done completely. However the whole team put my mind at rest and I've been driving my pride and joy around without a problem ever since. Didn't need to take out a bank loan to pay for the work done either. Very happy and great service, Thanks!! Joe on Google - These guys know what they are doing. Trustworthy and thorough inspections when you are looking to buy a car. Probably a bit more expensive than other mechanics but well worth it. More than likely, the guys will find a few things that will enable you to negotiate the price down with the seller. In return for your bucks, you get a thorough and informative chat with the mechanic and a RACV accredited report showing details of all observations found in the inspection. Thanks Brad. Anonymous on WOMO - Andrew and his team have remarkable customer service and make the whole experience enjoyable. Very grateful to have found such a lovely and trustworthy mechanic. Thanks Temby Auto!

Buying a second-hand car can be a daunting experience - but, if you know what to look for, you can avoid nasty surprises and even snag a deal. So, on the premise of unwanted surprises and scoring a deal, here's what to look out for when buying a used car privately. Make sure there is no money owing on the car It's better to be safe rather than sorry so making sure the current owner has paid off the car is a must. At worst, a failure to identify any money owing on the car can make you liable for the debts. To check if a car has any money owing on it, a relatively simple option is to conduct a REVS check online at revscheck.com.au. All that's needed for this is the Vehicle Identification Number, the registration number and the engine number. Check car documents No matter how trustworthy the seller seems, being thorough when checking documents and paperwork to coincide with the vehicle is a must. First, make sure the person selling the car is the legitimate owner. You can do this by cross referencing their proof of identity documents with the car's registration papers. Secondly, requesting paperwork that shows the vehicle's service history and how well it has been maintained is essential. Ask for receipts that show the oil has been changed, tyres replaced, radiator flushed, wiper blades replaced and brake pads inspected. Some of these precautions might sound over the top but being thorough when checking documents can pay off. Research, research, research As well as looking at the owner's paperwork of the car's history, doing online research about the particular make and model of the car and reading online reviews is useful. This helps you to gain a generic understanding of the car and anything you need to watch out for. In addition, compiling a list of relevant questions to ask the owner when inspecting the vehicle ensures you come prepared and shows you know your stuff. Some questions you could ask include: Are they the original owners? How long have they owned the car? How often do they use the car? Has the car been in any accidents? Getting the owners to back up their answers with relevant documentation is of course desirable. Take it for a drive Beyond just taking the car for a test drive around the block, getting it out in different road conditions allows you to get a better idea of how well it drives. Taking the vehicle on the freeway, over speed bumps and around a car park, will help give insight into the car's suspension, brakes and how smoothly it drives. Don't forget to check that the heater and air conditioner, radio, locking system, brake lights and turn signals are all in working condition. Have the car inspected by a trusted mechanic The final step is getting the car inspected by a trusted Melbourne mechanic. The car's history report will provide vital information about the car's past, however, having it inspected is the best way to learn about the car's present condition. Negotiating for the inspection fee to be included in the vehicles sale is always a good idea. Score a deal With these tips in mind, a strict budget, being patient and shopping around you can increase your chances of purchasing a reliable and hassle free second hand car!

Buying a Used Car from a Private Seller - What to Look For

Temby Auto Service is a VicRoads licensed roadworthy tester for passenger vehicles, 4 wheel drives, motorcycles and LPG vehicles - call us today! In Victoria, getting a certificate of roadworthiness is mandatory before you can sell a vehicle. If you are selling a vehicle, you must provide a current roadworthy certificate to the buyer, unless the buyer is your spouse or a licensed motor vehicle trader. Sometimes a roadworthiness certificate is also needed to clear a vehicle defect notice. You can buy or sell a vehicle without a roadworthy certificate, provided it is un-registered. However, before that vehicle can be re-registered the buyer will then need an RWC and this could impact the willingness of the potential buyer to proceed with the purchase. If you are the buyer in this situation you should be aware of the requirement and factor it in to your negotiations with the seller. How do I get a roadworthy certificate in Victoria? The vehicle must first pass a roadworthy inspection test before a certificate can be issued. Only licensed vehicle testers can issue RWC's. Temby Auto Service is a licensed vehicle testing station and a Vic Roads licensed roadworthy tester for passenger vehicles, 4 wheel drives and small trucks. A roadworthy inspection covers the basic safety related items, including: Wheels and tyres Seats and seat belts Exhaust and Emission controls Steering, suspension and braking systems Lamps and reflectors Windscreen, and windows including front windscreen wipers and washers The structure of the vehicle itself Safety related items on the body, chassis or engine In Melbourne and the rest of Victoria a roadworthy certificate will be valid for 30 days from its issue. It's important to note a roadworthiness inspection test is not a check of the overall reliability or condition of a vehicle. If you require a thorough check on the overall condition and reliability of the vehicle, then contact us at to ask about a fully comprehensive 150 point vehicle inspection. For more information about roadworthiness certificates in Melbourne, Vic visit VicRoads or contact Temby Auto Service and ask about RWC for your vehicle.

Temby Auto Service can assist with your rego checks, rwc, defect clearances, LPG vehicle 10 yr testing and more. Give us a call to discus your needs.
